Paid Opportunities

  • Why we need help now:

QLL has been blessed with continuous interest and growth over the last two years, and engaging with our patrons through social media and our newsletter is one of our most important tools. To this point QLL has been completely volunteer operated, but with our core team being overcommitted our communication implementation has suffered at times. We need a seasoned professional who can help us craft a communication strategy, manage a comms calendar, and make engaging content to engage our patrons.

    About the Role:

    Communications Strategy:

The Communications Manager will work closely with the QLL Steering Committee to:

    • Consult on where QLL should be messaging, what platforms or tools we need, and help expand the communications expertise within the Steering Committee.

    • Define the voice and tone of QLL communications on different platforms

    • Engage in long lead communications planning to ensure the organization is ready for important events

    • Create a monthly communications calendar so the organization can switch from reactive to proactive communications

    Content Creation:

The Communications Manager will, with minimal supervision, be responsible to:

    • Draft and post content weekly for the organization on Instagram, Threads, BlueSky, Tumblr, and Tiktok

    • Draft and schedule 4-6 newsletters per month utilizing FloDesk

    • Create visuals for socials, blog posts, and newsletters with access to Canva

    Community Management:

If time permits, the Communications Manager should also:

    • Engage with comments or questions on social media posts

    • Route reader advisory questions to our reader advisory discord channel

    Time and Pay:

    • Commitment of 8 hours a week

    • $50-$75 an hour, but flexible

    • 6 month contract starting early 2026 with hopes to extend

    About You:

    Experience:

We’re hoping to work with an experienced communications freelancer who is accustomed to highly independent work. Experience working with growing non-profits to define their communications strategy and help expand their organizations is a big plus!

Ideal Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

    • Success working independently as a freelancer or contractor.

    • Several years of experience in communications, marketing, or social media management.

    • A track record of growing and engaging online communities across multiple platforms.

    • Ability to adapt a voice and tone through copywriting and visuals.

    • Strategic communication planning experience including preparing for events, fundraising, and crisis comms.

    • Comfort working with a volunteer-led organization.

    • They get the gays

    Passion:

We’re hoping to work with folks who care about the world! About queer folks! About libraries!  About how a book can change a queer person’s life at any age, anywhere in the country, at any stage of their queer journey.
