OPEN POSITIONS:

Department: Collections
Reports to: Collections Team Lead (Amber)
Summary:
The Collections Volunteer will be responsible for monitoring the readers advisory channel in the QLL discord and thoughtfully responding to reference questions with recommendations available within QLL’s collection. They will also be responsible for evaluating ‘Notify Me’ tags. They will use QLL’s collection development policy to determine whether books should be added to wishlists for future purchase. The Collections Volunteer will report to the Collections Team Lead and while most work can be done asynchronously, they will meet virtually with the Collections Team Lead as needed and occasionally attend a Collection Development meeting.
Duties/tasks:
Monitor the #readers-advisory channel in QLL’s discord
Provide reading recommendations from QLL’s collection to suit patron needs
Evaluate materials with Notify Me tags - making recommendations of what should be added to QLL’s wishlists, and what does not fit into the scope of the collection.
Tech requirements:
Reliable device to access the internet (discord, video calls) & handle spreadsheets
Hours (est. time commitment per wk):
5 hr/wk, initial commitment of 4mo. Then ongoing option for yearly re-commitment
Required qualifications/competencies:
Good written communication skills
1+ year(s) reference or readers advisory experience in libraries
Familiar with QLL’s collection on Libby, and comfortable navigating its guides, lists, etc..
Comfort working with spreadsheets & repetitive, detail-oriented tasks
Desired qualifications/competencies:
Public library experience
Knowledge/familiarity of LBGTQ+ publishing landscape
